about

Quanta / Signal / Noise is a new work presented in four versions by Langham Research Centre.

The orchestrations follow similar compositional contours that combine into one interactive work in a free iOS app, "Langham Research Centre: Quanta / Signal / Noise” which was produced and developed in collaboration with London College of Music at the University of West London.

The piece follows in the musical tradition established by mid-20th century composers, who shifted the focus away from the conventional building blocks of music: notes and harmony articulated by rhythms mapped onto grids of steady pulses. Instead, they focused on a fascination with sound itself: its unfolding textures, shapes, energies and dynamics.

The app version "Langham Research Centre: Quanta / Signal / Noise" is available via the App Store from December 22nd 2020. This enables users to play with the material created for the four realisations of Quanta / Signal / Noise. Details can be explored as imaginary auditory landscapes unfold in the ears.
